I just received this watch on 7th June 2010 and I was surprised at the look. My expectations are high for products like watches. The fine detail and quality of the finish of the watch is exceptional. The Blue Sapphire crystal gives the watch a slightly blueish tint which I find very appealing. The hands and lettering are crystal clear (quality is apparent). As far as setting the watch it is a little tricky at first. There are basically 3 modes of operation. Setup: 2 clicks of the crown, Alarm mode: one click of the crown, Normal mode: crown fully in.
In Setup you have to configure all of the dials and reset them to the correct positions. This is a little strange. Firstly, reset the time using the crown. Secondly, set the Alarm Time (this is a clock in it's own right) by pressing the lower button. Thirdly set the second hand and stopwatch hand (yellow) by holding in the top button for 4 seconds. You can then set the exact position of the hands to ensure they are aligned with the proper tick marks (eg the second tick mark). I would also suggest in this mode that you enter it when the clock second hand is at zero as this will ensure that you align everything to the exact second and minute. Once you have setup the various dials, push the crown in one click. The watch will now start operation. It helps to set the clocks ahead by a couple of minutes and then push the crown in 1 click when you want to synchronize to the master clock.
In the Alarm set mode you can also set the date. Just rotate the crown until the date changes. For setting the alarm, use the bottom button. This will advance the alarm clock. Set accordingly.
In normal operation (crown fully in) you are now in stopwatch mode. For the stop watch just use the top button as a start/stop. Once the stopwatch is running the bottom button becomes a lap button or a reset button is if the stopwatch is stopped (pretty standard operation).
The Sliderule is self explanatory and there's a lot of info on how to use these things on the web (do a you-tube search).
I would like to thank Orient for making such fine products. Workmanship at it's best.
