(More customer reviews)If you are a world traveler or you just like trouble free, hyper-accurate time pieces then this is a great watch for you. Citizen's latest offering is a no frills, stylish watch that is guaranteed to be maintenance free perfect time, all the time. Of great value is the Citizen eco-drive quartz analog movement. If you are unfamiliar with eco-drive, let me say it is solar perfected. A few hours in the sun provides months of accurate time keeping. The Atomic radio controlled receiver perpetual calender is very easy to change between cities by pulling out the crown one click, select a listed city in your time zone, and close the crown. The hands will move to that city once the crown closes and the watch will correct the time and date accordingly. All radio controlled atomic watches receive a radio signal from the Cesium atomic clock, the world's most precise clock, accurate to 1 second in 1 million years. You can update to the atomic clock any time you wish (best results occur at night) but the watch will update automatically every night at 2 am. If some problem it will try again at 3 am and 4 am. It takes anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes to update. I wear mine all the time so it updates on my wrist while I sleep. Validation of the daily update is a simple push of a button. Verification against the online atomic clock at www.time.gov results in dead nuts accuracy (accounting for the .2 second internet latency from my provider).
The atomic clock signal is encoded so that it can be transmitted in long wave radio form. In the U.S., the signal originates from the WWVB transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado and is transmitted one frequency of 60kHz. The atomic watches contain an antenna and internal program to receive and encode the radio signal. It is then decoded to display the precise time. Maintain perfect accuracy by automatic nightly updates with the radio signal. Of course the watch may also be manually updated by the user. When you travel there are atomic clocks on most continents so this watch will always have perfect time no matter where you go. The radio waves are very long and for the most part you will have accurate updates every night no matter where you go; however, if you happen to be somewhere with no atomic clock wave reach then no worries, the manufacturer says you can expect to keep accurate time +/- 15 seconds a month which should suffice long enough for you to get within rage of a transmitter. My experience with other Citizen eco-drive watches suggests a much more accurate actual performance.
Solid stainless steel combination polished & satin finish case. Solid stainless steel stationary bezel. Sapphire flat profile crystal. Really beautiful blue color luminous 5 minute dots/markers dial. Steel color luminous filled oversized easy to read hands in day light and in the dark. Snap-on press style stainless steel raised logo/engraved case back. Combination polished and satin finish 316L surgical stainless steel band. Sport style with spring release factory logo clasp. 100 meters water resistance. Case size is 43mm/11mm, not too small, not too large, just right.
Bottom line: I travel quite a bit and keeping accurate time and knowing what day it is becomes important when I'm on the run. A quick point to the nearest major city and the watch does all the rest. Sure a lot of people rely on cell phones, but I am kind of old school in that sense and I can think of no better watch for the business traveler. Always correct time, battery free eco-drive, quartz movement in a beautiful watch. Citizen really hit a home run with this one. Perfection!
